IMDb profile

Lotto Weekend Miljonairs (Lotto Weekend Millionaires) is a Dutch game show based on the original British format of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. The show is hosted by Robert ten Brink. The main goal of the game is to win €1 Million by answering 15 multiple-choice questions correctly. It is shown on RTL 4, earlier it was shown on SBS 6. It is shown from 6 February 1999 to today. It's host is, from the beginning, Robert ten Brink.

From 6 February 1999 to February 2006, it was shown on SBS 6, but from 4 March 2006 to today, it is shown on RTL 4.

In the first seasons (from about 1999-2001) it wasn't sponsored by the Lotto yet, and it was called "Weekend Miljonairs". Because the Lotto (a well known Dutch lottery) began to sponsor the show, it's now called "Lotto Weekend Miljonairs". The show now also features the results of the Lotto.

When a contestant gets the fifth question correct, he will leave with at least €500. When a contestant gets the tenth question correct, he will leave with at least €16.000. From 1999-2001, when the euro wasn't used yet and the Dutch guilders was used in Holland, it was like this: When a contestant got the fifth question correct, he would leave with at least fl.1,000. When a contestant got the tenth question correct, he would leave with at least fl.32,000.

The program has only been won once so far, on January 6, 2001 by Hans Peters. Because the euro wasn't used yet in 2001, he didn't won €1 Million, but NLG 1,000,000.

The final question has also been answered wrong once, on December 20, 2003 by contestant Menno de Ruijter, which caused him to lose €234,000 of the €250,000 he had.

There have been a lot of other final questions, but none of the contestants took the risk.

[edit] Ending of the program

In november 2007, the Lotto announced that it would stop sponsoring the show in mid-2008, and would not renew the contract. RTL did'nt want to give up the program, and so they searched hard for a new sponsor. Eventually, they failed.

The last episode aired on May 24, 2008.

The program will probably still continue after the summer of 2008, but it will not be sponsored by Lotto.
