[edit] Guidelines

  • When welcoming, put in the edit summary one of the below:
    • Welcome
    • Welcome to Wikipedia
    • Or anything else with the word 'welcome' in it.

  • I personally recommend the welcome format I have down below. It shows many links and shows new users how to get around.

[edit] Welcoming format

To qualify as a welcoming, you must use this format, or another. Just remember to include links on how to get around Wikipedia. Here is my standard template, which I highly recommend.

Hello, User Name Here! Welcome to Wikipedia! You may benefit from following some of the links below, which will help you get the most out of Wikipedia. If you have any questions you can ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. Please remember to sign your name on talk pages by clicking Image:Signature_icon.png or by typing four tildes "~~~~"; this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you are already loving Wikipedia you might want to consider being "adopted" by a more experienced editor or joining a WikiProject to collaborate with others in creating and improving articles of your interest. In addition, you can also have me set you up with a suitable adoptor, but only at your wish. Click here for a directory of all the WikiProjects. Finally, please do your best to always fill in the edit summary field. Happy editing! Sincerely, LAA, and the Unofficial Wikipedia Welcome Squad

[edit] Challenges

Note: Challenges are rare. They are mostly for making techinal things (Examples are logos, userboxes, etc.)

[edit] Userbox

I will award a barnstar to someone who can make a userbox for this squad. The userbox must contain: This user is a member of the Wikipedia Welcome Squad. Are you? Of course add a link to the WWS page. The point of this challenge is to make sure users see the Welcome Squad, which will bring in more participants.

[edit] For the future

  1. If allowed, there will be an adoption portion, where there will be a short quiz. After the new user takes the quiz, the WWS would put them with a suitable adopter found here.
  2. If enough participants sign up, I shall have a Welcoming Tournament. More details on that if users sign up. So if you have a Wikipedia friend, tell them about the project.
