Los Dementes Algarete, or LDA are reggaeton artists who are of Dominican descent, but were raised in New York City. As the first reggaetón duet to feature both male and female vocalists, LDA is a group known for their versatility among the genres of rap and reggaetón.[1]They are also known as having developed their style in the US mainland rather than in Puerto Rico.
The original Los Dementes Algarete was a group consisting of Baby Psycho and four other friends, who all had different musical styles. They invited Negra to join the group after watching her at a high school talent show. In Puerto Rico, Boy Wonder of Chosen Few Emerald Entertainment, who was impressed by one of their tracks and headed to New York to sign Baby Psycho, under the impression that Baby Psycho was a solo artist. Baby Psycho refused to sign with Boy Wonder unless he signed the entire group.
Problems within the group led to a break-up, leaving only Baby Psycho and Orquidea, who have made many hit singles on various compilations, such as Chosen Few: El Documental, and El Draft.
