[edit] History

Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) awarded a Los Angeles franchise to Jerry Buss on June 24, 1982. Buss had purchased the Philadelphia Fever and wanted to move it to southern California. MISL approved and the team was renamed the Lazers. As Buss also owned the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association, he chose the name Lazers for his soccer team both as a pun on the scientific acronym LASER and to note their connection to the Lakers.

The Lazers folded in June 1989.
