Los Angeles High School of the Arts

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Los Angeles High School of the Arts began as an academy within Belmont High School. It has undergone several name changes, starting as BAPA (Belmont Academy of Performing Arts), changing to PADT (Performing Arts, Design, and Technology), and finally settling on LAHSA.

LAHSA is a pilot school and is located in the Massey Building of the Belmont campus. It currently has less than 400 students, who take a rigorous course load which balances academics with performing arts electives. In addition to taking dance and drama classes, students also have the opportunity of participating in play production classes such as light, set, and sound design.

The future of LAHSA is uncertain. With new schools being built around the community, the students of LAHSA hope to have their school moved to a new site with facilities that will allow their performing arts curriculum to thrive.
