Los 40 Principales

Los 40 Principales is the main musical radio station in Spain with more than 3,000,000 listeners. The station was founded in 1966 and in 2006 the station celebrated its 40th anniversary.

This radio station has a chart with 40 positions, and is the considered the most important chart in Spain. Every week people vote for their favourite singers. There are Spanish, American, South American, European and British singers or bands.

In February 2008, Los 40 Principales Chile ended its broadcasting and started its merger with FM Hit, Chile's most listened youth radio station (This was because of the purchase of the former CRC "Ibero American Radio Chile" by Grupo Prisa España. Ibero American was the former owner of FM Hit). With this merge it was created the new project called Hit40 which currently operates on the dial belonging to FM Hit, and whose existence period would last until early 2009, the date in which it is stipulated the return of the name 40 Principales to this new station, as a final stage of the merger radio.
