Lori L. Lake

Lori L. Lake (born February 9, 1960) is a Minnesota writer, teacher, speaker, and author of mystery, drama, romance, and general fiction, most of which is about Lesbian protagonists. Her work includes the "Gun" police trilogy, two short story collections, and the WWII novel Snow Moon Rising, which won the 2007 Ann Bannon Popular Choice Award and an Alice B Readers Award. Lake teaches fiction writing at The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis, frequently gives talks about writing craft, and is a founding mother of The Golden Crown Literary Society.

[edit] Early life

Lake was born in Portland, Oregon, the oldest of five daughters, and spent her early years with her family in Seattle and Portland, then lived with an aunt and uncle in Tigard, Oregon, during her teen years. She graduated from Portland's Lewis and Clark College in 1983 with a double major in English and Political Science and moved to the Twin Cities shortly after. She has resided in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area ever since. She attended Hamline University where she studied with Carol Bly and received a Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies with an emphasis on Literature and Ethics.

In recent years, Lake has become a mentor to many young and aspiring writers, especially through her work at The Loft Literary Center and in her work as program director of literary conferences, particularly Golden Literary Society, 2005-2008.
