Lorcan O'Herlihy (born 1959 in Dublin, Ireland) is an architect. While studying architecture in Europe in the late 1970s, Lorcan became deeply immersed in painting, developing a highly international abstract expressionism style. Lorcan currently lives in Los Angeles, California.
In 2004 the Architectural League of New York selected Lorcan O’Herlihy as one of the eight “emerging voices” in the United States. LOHA’s commitment to design excellence in commercial, educational and residential projects has earned 26 national and international awards including seven AIA/LA Design Awards. The firm’s work has been recognized internationally with a number of exhibitions and publications and has been featured in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Wallpaper*, Metropolis Magazine, Architectural Record, Architectural Review, Architecture, Progressive Architecture, A+U, and a book on LOHA’s completed works by Rockport Publications.
Lorcan’s professional practice has been coupled with intellectual rigor since the inception of his office. He has taught and lectured extensively over the last decade, including the Architectural Association in London, Southern California Institute of Architecture [SCI-Arc], Cranbrook Academy of Art, Michigan, Columbia University, New York and the National Building Museum, Washington D.C. among others.
Previously, Lorcan worked at I.M. Pei and Partners on the celebrated Grande Louvre Museum in Paris and as an Associate at Steven Holl Architects, where he was responsible for several projects including the award winning Hybrid Building in Seaside, Florida, which received a National Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects.
