Loray is at the est of France, near Pierrefontaine, Valdahon, Orchamps-Venne at approximately 50 km east of Besançon. On the road of the "micro-techniques" between Morteau and Besançon. Its highest point is the "Roche-Barchey" at an altitude of 1,000 m.

From the List of European tornadoes and tornado outbreaks, some area of the village had been under a tornado the 9 June 1935.

As of the census of 1999, the population was 404.
The estimate for 2004 was 433.
Its inhabitants are called les Loraitins ( or les Cabas ).
