LOR Radio Argentina

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

LOR Radio Argentina was the first nationally licensed radio station in Argentina.

The first radio-telephone tests were done in Bernal, Argentina in 1910 by Guglielmo Marconi.

By 1916 David Sarnoff was proposing to bring music, sports and news broadcasts into the homes of listeners by wireless radio.

The project was delayed by World War I, but on August 26, 1920, a group of music fans installed modest equipment and broadcast the opera Parsifal by Richard Wagner from the Coliseo theater to an Argentinian audience of perhaps fifty listeners.

LOR Radio Argentina began transmitting regularly from various theaters in 1921.

The inauguration of Argentina's president, Marcelo T. de Alvear was covered by LOR Radio Argentina on October 12, 1922, a first in news broadcasting for that nation.

The station closed on January 1, 1997, after a religious show. This was due to economic problems caused by a bad administration.
