Lopez-Fitzgerald family

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lopez-Fitzgerald family is a working class Latino-Irish family in the fictional New England town of Harmony on NBC/DirecTV's daytime drama, Passions. The Lopez-Fitzgeralds earned the wrath of Crane patriarch Alistair Crane sometime during the 1980s when Martin Fitzgerald ran off with Alistair's wife, Katherine, and the entire family has suffered ever since. The two families met due to the marriage of Ivy Winthrop and Julian Crane. Pilar had previously been a maid for Maine Governor Harrison Winthrop but moved with his daughter Ivy to Harmony to be her maid (and by extension the maid of the Cranes).

[edit] Alistair Crane

Main article: Alistair Crane

Alistair Ephraim Crane is the husband of Martin and Pilar's eldest daughter, Theresa. Theresa was desperate to win back Ethan Winthrop from his wife, Gwen, and to regain custody of her infant daughter, Jane, from the Winthrops. Alistair saw Theresa's desperation and offered to help her win Ethan and Jane back if she agreed to marry him, which she did on October 3, 2005. At their wedding reception, Alistair announced that the prenuptial agreement that Theresa had signed allowed him to adopt her son, Little Ethan; Alistair disowned all of his other relatives and made Little Ethan his heir, planning to mold the boy in his image. Alistair only had a few months with which to work, however, because he was stabbed by Liz Sanbourne on New Year's Eve 2005 and fell into a coma shortly thereafter; Theresa, who was regularly abused at Alistair's hand, was thrilled by her husband's condition.

Alistair was presumed deceased in a train crash in July 2006, and Theresa took over the Crane Empire as his widow and Little Ethan's legal guardian. Theresa married and divorced Jared Casey and then married Ethan Winthrop before Alistair returned to Harmony and revealed that he was still alive, meaning that he and Theresa were still legally married. Alistair discovered that their son, Little Ethan, was biologically Ethan's son and not Alistair's grandson, and warned Theresa not to tell Ethan the truth, fearing that he would be made a laughingstock if the truth were discovered.

Ethan Lopez-Fitzgerald Crane (born June 21, 1996, as Ethan Martin Crane and later known as Ethan Winthrop, Jr.), better known as Little Ethan, is the adoptive son of Alistair and Theresa Crane. Born on-screen in 2002, Little Ethan was believed to be the product of Theresa's drunken fling with Julian Crane. When his mother married Alistair Crane in October 2005, Alistair adopted Little Ethan and named him the heir to the Crane empire, disowning all of his other relatives except Fancy. Alistair began to mold Little Ethan into his image, much to Theresa's dismay.

In June 2006, Theresa found out that her true love, Ethan Winthrop, had fathered her son. Initially thrilled, she became afraid that Ethan and his wife, Gwen, would sue for custody of Little Ethan and decided to keep Little Ethan's paternity a secret, especially after she realized that Little Ethan would cease to be the heir to the Crane empire were it revealed that he was not a Crane by blood. Theresa eventually decided to tell Ethan the truth in 2007, but Gwen and her mother Rebecca blackmailed Theresa by threatening to reveal her mother's explosive secret. Theresa eventually told Little Ethan that Ethan is his father when Little Ethan donated part of his liver to Ethan and Gwen's son, Jonathan, though Ethan himself still does not known that he has two sons.

[edit] Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald Crane

Theresa Crane (née Lopez-Fitzgerald and previously Casey and Winthrop; born in 1982) is the eldest daughter and middle child of Martin Fitzgerald and Pilar Lopez-Fitzgerald. Theresa fell in love with Ethan Winthrop (then Crane) after viewing his picture in a magazine as a young girl and swore that she would one day marry him. After a series of accidents and misunderstandings, Ethan and Theresa became engaged, though, due to Theresa's numerous lies, Ethan broke up with her.

Throughout their nine-year history, Theresa has given birth to two of Ethan's children — Little Ethan was born in June 2002, and Jane was born in December 2004. Until June 2006, Theresa believed that Little Ethan had been fathered by Julian Crane; Theresa was at first eager to tell Ethan of their son, believing that the news would drive Ethan to leave his wife, Gwen, and come back to her, but she soon came to fear that Ethan and Gwen would sue for custody of Little Ethan as they had of Jane, and decided to keep Little Ethan's paternity a secret. Theresa finally decided to tell Ethan the truth in September 2007, but Gwen discovered Pilar's deadly secret and threatened to reveal it if Theresa told Ethan the truth.

In her quest to be with Ethan, Theresa has married three other men. After an evening of drinking, Theresa first married Ethan's ex-father, Julian, in August 2001, though the marriage was revealed in March 2003 to have been a practical joke; then, in October 2005, Theresa married Alistair Crane, who promised to help her win Ethan and Jane back from Gwen but instead adopted Little Ethan, made him his heir, and began to mold him in his image until he fell into a coma in January 2006 and was presumed dead that July; finally, Theresa married Jared Casey in April 2007 at the Blackmailer's behest, then separated and divorced in July. After their divorces from Jared and Gwen were both finalized, Theresa and Ethan were married in August 2007, only to discover that Alistair was still alive and Theresa's marriages to both Jared and Ethan were invalid.

[edit] Martin Fitzgerald

Martin Fitzgerald is the husband of Pilar Lopez-Fitzgerald, son of Brian Fitzgerald, and the father of Antonio, Luis, Theresa, Miguel, and Paloma Lopez-Fitzgerald. Martin and Pilar's youngest child, Paloma, had just been born when Martin was moved to help Katherine Crane escape her abusive husband, Alistair. Knowing that he could never return to Harmony after helping Katherine escape, the two had their appearances surgically altered and moved to Martin's sister-in-law Maria's inn in Puerto Arena, Mexico, where Pilar had sent Paloma to live for financial reasons. While Martin and Katherine lived in Puerto Arena as Bob and Ellen Wheeler, Pilar never gave up the hope that her husband would return home and struggled to provide for her remaining four children.

Martin and Katherine returned to Harmony in 2004 after Luis and Sheridan came to Puerto Arena to retrieve Paloma and take her back to Harmony; soon, everyone realized the Wheelers' true identities. Pilar and his children were furious and Martin for abandoning them to be with Katherine, though Martin insisted that they hadn't become intimate until they'd been away for years. Nonetheless, Martin broke things off with Katherine and recommitted himself to Pilar, and they began planning a vow renewal ceremony. The night before the ceremony, however, Martin slept with Katherine, and when Pilar found out, she ended things with her husband, later asking him for a divorce. Martin and Katherine left town together sometime late in 2006.

[edit] Antonio Lopez-Fitzgerald

Antonio Brian Lopez-Fitzgerald (May 7, early 1970sJune 24, 2004) was the son of Martin Fitzgerald and Pilar Lopez-Fitzgerald. After his father disappeared, Antonio took up the role of man of the house and helped his mother care for his younger siblings; later, though, Julian Crane forced Antonio to leave town. Antonio left Harmony and moved to the island of St. Lisa under the name of Brian O'Leary. There, Antonio met Sheridan Crane when he rescued her from the ocean after her boat exploded; she suffered from amnesia and both were unaware that she had been engaged to his brother. Brian and Diana, as they were known, became engaged and returned to Harmony to introduce her to his family; Sheridan then remembered her true identity, but could not tell Antonio that she was in love Luis because he was suffering from an unnamed illness and would die if he experienced a shock of any sort. As a result, Sheridan was forced to marry Antonio on January 9, 2003, though Sheridan slept with Luis during their marriage and eventually became pregnant with and gave birth to his son, whom Antonio believed to be his own son. Marty was kidnapped at birth and presumed dead, however, so Antonio never knew that Marty was actually his nephew.

Sheridan eventually told Antonio that she was leaving him for Luis; Antonio tried to force her onto a plane away from Harmony, but eventually relented and let her go. Antonio stayed on the plane, which exploded over the Atlantic Ocean; Alistair had planted a bomb on board in an attempt to kill Sheridan. Antonio was declared legally dead later in 2004.

[edit] Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald

Main article: Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald

Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald is the second son and child of Martin Fitzgerald and Pilar Lopez-Fitzgerald. After both his father and elder brother disappeared, Luis was forced to give up his dream of going to college and becoming a lawyer in order to help his mother care for his two younger siblings, Theresa and Miguel. After watching his mother work, underpaid, for the Crane family for years and becoming highly suspicious of Alistair and Julian's involvement in Martin and Antonio's disappearances, Luis developed a deep hatred for the Cranes. Luis was forced to believe that all of the Cranes were not bad, however, when he eventually fell in love with Sheridan Crane. The two eventually became engaged, but she was presumed deceased in a boat explosion in Bermuda in August 2001. Luis was devastated, but eventually moved on with his high school sweatheart, Beth Wallace. When Sheridan returned alive to Harmony the following year engaged to the long-lost Antonio, Luis broke up with Beth and tried to reunite Sheridan, though, due to Antonio's mysterious illness, Sheridan was forced to marry Antonio in January 2003.

Sheridan gave birth to Luis's son, Martin, on September 9, 2003, after being kidnapped by a deranged Beth, who kidnapped the child and passed him off as her son with Luis. Antonio's 2004 murder freed Luis and Sheridan to be together once more, and they eventually realized that young Marty was their son in 2005. Beth, who had recently discovered herself to be Alistair's illegitimate daughter, escaped the country with Marty, however; Sheridan was furious and broke up with Luis, ordering him to find their son and bring him back to her. Luis tracked Beth and Marty around the eastern hemisphere until he was captured by Alistair's men and held captive in Hawaii; his family was then led to believe that he had been murdered in Morocco.

Sheridan moved on and married Chris Boothe, and the two, while in pursuit of Marty, found and rescued Luis from the Hawaiian compound. Luis was determined to win Sheridan back and felt that finding Marty was his only way; he flew to Rome, where he met Sheridan's niece, Fancy Crane, and teamed up with her to find Marty. The two believed Marty to have been killed in a train crash in July, however, and Luis returned to Harmony broken. He eventually fell in love with Fancy, however, much to Sheridan's jealousy and dismay. Luis and Fancy were quite happy together until she was twice raped and Luis was framed as her rapist. As part of the Blackmailer storyline, Luis was also framed for two counts of murder and one count of arson, and was railroaded into a conviction. He was executed by lethal injection in August 2007, but Endora Lenox was able to turn back time within the execution chamber in order to allow Eve Russell to accuse her son of the crimes, freeing Luis.

Once free, Luis was determined to be a couple with Fancy again, though Sheridan — using Marty, who was recently revealed to be alive and returned to them — and Pretty, Fancy's vengeful sister, are both determined to become Luis's wife and break up Luis and Fancy for good.

[edit] Maria Lopez-Fitzgerald

Maria Ivy Lopez-Fitzgerald (born July 21, 2003) is the only child and daughter of Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald and Kay Bennett. Maria was conceived when her mother used the essence of Charity on herself, making Miguel believe that she was his girlfriend, and slept with him. Miguel was by Kay's side when Maria was born prematurely in July 2003 and suffered from respiratory problems, but he eventually left town when Maria was a year old in order to chase after Charity, who had fled Harmony. Until Miguel came home in March 2006, Maria was largely raised by her mother and later her mother's boyfriend, Fox Crane.

[edit] Marty Lopez-Fitzgerald

Martin "Marty" Lopez-Fitzgerald (born September 9, 2000) is the only child of former supercouple Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald and Sheridan Crane, born on-screen in 2003. He was kidnapped at birth by his deranged half-aunt, Beth Wallace, and passed off as her son with Luis; Luis and Sheridan did not learn the truth until June 2005. The couple attempted to retrieve their son, but Beth and Marty fled the country with Alistair's help. Luis tracked his ex-girlfriend and son for several months until he was captured and held prisoner in Hawaii by Alistair around October 2005, but he did not come face-to-face with them again until he was rescued and tracked them to Rome in May 2006. Marty was presumed dead twice there, once in a taxi crash in June and again in a train crash in July along with Alistair and Beth.

In August 2007, Spike Lester, in a desperate attempt to save his own life, confessed to Sheridan that Marty was still alive. Once she was able to convince him that it wasn't a hoax, Luis and Sheridan began searching for their son, eventually finding that he was somewhere in Harmony. Their search began to look hopeless when Alistair returned Marty to Sheridan's cottage on Christmas Eve 2007, much to Luis and Sheridan's joy. Marty is thrilled to be home with his parents, but is deathly afraid that Alistair will kidnap him again and doesn't want to leave his father; Marty is also to young to realize that his mother is using him as a pawn to win his father back from his current girlfriend, Fancy Crane.

[edit] Jane Winthrop

Jane Winthrop (born December 2, 2004) is the daughter and youngest child of Ethan Winthrop and Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald. Jane was conceived in May 2004 when her mother, who believed that she had miscarried Ethan and Gwen's child and was desperate to successfully act as their surrogate so that she could trade their child for her own son, Little Ethan, whom the Winthrops had adopted, drugged and raped Ethan. Theresa soon found that she had never miscarried and was pregnant with twins — one child hers and Ethan's, the other Ethan and Gwen's — but eventually became unable to carry both children to term. The weaker twin, a son Ethan and Gwen planned to name Nathan, was aborted in November 2004, and Jane was born fourteen weeks prematurely in December.

Gwen, who had been rendered infertile following the stillbirth of her daughter, Sarah, in October 2003, was devastated to discover that Jane was not biologically her daughter. Ethan and Gwen sued for custody of Jane, however, and won; for the first two years of her life, Jane knew Gwen as her mother. Ethan and Gwen separated in January 2007, however, and Gwen was legally unable to keep custody of Jane, who began living with Ethan and Theresa.

Maria Lopez (d. December 6, 2007) was the daughter of Antonio and Maria Lopez and the younger sister of Pilar. When Pilar's husband, Martin, disappeared in the mid-1980s, Pilar was forced to send her infant daughter, Paloma, to live in Mexico with Maria for financial reasons. Maria raised Paloma in Puerto Arena alongside her own two sons until mid-2004. Maria ran an inn in Puerto Arena, Mexico, unaware her surgically altered brother-in-law, Martin, and his mistress, Katherine Crane, were living under the assumed names of Bob and Ellen Wheeler.

Maria said good bye to Paloma and the Wheelers when her nephew, Luis, and former niece-in-law Sheridan came to Mexico to inform Paloma of her brother Antonio's death and reunite Paloma with her mother. Paloma and Maria kept in close contact even after she left.

On December 6, 2007, Pilar's vengeful ex-friend, Juanita Vasquez, tracked Maria down and ruthlessly shot her in the back of the head as a horrified Pilar listened on the other end of the phone. On New Year's Eve, Pilar learned that Maria's two sons had been murdered as well; Maria's youngest son was sixteen.[1]
