Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. [edit] Re: inappropriate external links
I am adding resources for the games, which is done on pretty much every game in wikipedia. So what exactly is the problem? This is an IRC channel not a website, even though people post links to community websites aswell. So what am I doing wrong?
- As a rule, only official IRC channels should be added. You seem to be advertising unofficial EfNet servers, which although not damaging Wikipedia, isn't really adding much to it. If we added links to all the UnOfficial sites and channels out there, can you imagine the mess we'd have!? I'd also point out that you need an IRC client installed to use the links you added, many people don't have one installed; we try our hardest to link only to links that are available to the greatest percentage of the viewing public! Hope this helps, see WP:EL for more information - it's the external linking policy. Thanks! Hawker Typhoon 23:49, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
