[edit] Port of Longview, Washington

Thanks for your contributions. You appear to be associated with the port, so I thought I would point out our conflict of interest guidelines, which do not preclude your editing an article about the port but do point out important points about writing from a neutral point-of-view and how Wikipedia is not the place to advertise your business/agency/interest, etc. I haven't looked closely at the article you wrote yet, this is just a standard message I write to people who appear to have a COI. Happy editing! Katr67 00:57, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

I think the article looks good and I applaud your accurate removal of the stuff I thought made it sound like advertising for the port. You might want to look at the other articles in Category:Ports and harbors of Washington or its parent category Category:Ports and harbors of the United States, for more ideas. (With the caveat that not all articles are necessarily up to our standards yet) And if you have any photos that could be freely licensed to the project, that would really enhance the article. Let me know if you have any specific questions about format, content or whatever. Another resource is our business FAQ. Happy editing! Katr67 23:36, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

I have continued to edit the article and have uploaded photos to the page. Please let me know if there are any additional areas that need editing. There appears to be a box under References that states that additional references are required. I do not know how to remedy this. I have tried to include as many as possible. Thank you for your assistance.port of longview 18:39, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Signatures

On a talk page like this one, simply type four tildes ~~~~, after whatever you have written, which will automatically sign and datestamp your post, much like this: --> Katr67 23:36, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Signing

Messages you write on talk pages should be signed. Text in articles (and all other non-talk pages) should not be signed. There are two ways (at least) to to sign, which are explained in the standard signing template:

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button Image:Wikisigbutton.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you.

Signing tells other editors who you are and when you wrote the message. —EncMstr 23:35, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Edit summaries

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field - please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you. [edit] Show preview

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. In the future, it is recommended that you use the preview button before you save; this helps you find any errors you have made, and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history. Thanks again. Katr67 18:35, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
