[edit] Grumpy staff

I'd love to add something to this article about Nick, the incredibly grumpy, unfriendly and unhelpful man who used to staff the station (is he still there?). But I know it wouldn't be very encyclopedic. Oh well. --Richardrj talk email 09:17, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

I for one think there's nothing wrong with adding "human interest" if it's relevant and – crucially – referenced. If you could find, for example, an Evening Argus feature on him, that would surely be good enough. An alternative (sneaky) way would be to find a photo of him; it could be used to illustrate the station, but a tiny note about him in the caption would probably survive... ;) – Kieran T (talk | contribs) 12:04, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
I had to laugh when I read this - I remember him clearly and with little fondness! I always thought he looked a bit like Freddie Mercury (mid/late 80s-era). I collect Platform Tickets, which even cheerful and willing booking clerks hesitate to sell you these days, so you can imagine his reaction when I bought one back in December 1995! He always used to spot me picking up discarded tickets in the booking office as well, which caused him to glare in a scary way. (I Googled him with his full name, which I won't reveal here but which used to be on his badge, but didn't come up with anything.) --Hassocks5489 13:10, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
No, sadly I couldn't find anything about him that I could add to the article either. Yes, he had a Freddie moustache, so we're talking about the same person. One of his favourite tactics was to deliberately take as long as humanly possible to issue and process payment for a ticket, while the Brighton train was pulling up at the platform outside. He really wanted to make people miss that train. --Richardrj talk email 14:29, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
On my visit last month to take the pix for this article ... he was still there, and much more visible behind the newly installed huge ticket office window (replacing the poky old-fashioned one previously in place)! Hassocks5489 17:41, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
