[edit] hotel, hospital, neither?
This article cites an article to credit the notion that these painting were painted from a hotel room. That website/article does not seem to provide any indication that these were painted from that hotel or any. Additionally, the main article describes the paintings as being from a hospital room perspective and alludes to evidence being published in support however does not provide a direct citation. If nothing else there is a descrepancy between the two articles and both need better citations - it seems likely that the hotel was mentioned to obtain publicity. I am attaching a clarify supperscript to flag editors to this problem. PhilipDSullivan 05:00, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- There are numerous references, published and online, which mention both the Savoy and St. Thomas' Hospital as vantage points from which Monet painted Parliament. This is not impossible, considering his peripatetic nature; he may have found views he liked from several different spots, and done a number of paintings from each. JNW 05:38, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

- Then the article still needs some clarification; if it states that they all had the same viewpoint -which this article does - and there are legitimate reasons to believe there were multiple view points then one or the other is wrong, and thus the statement needs clarification. If there are numerous references online pick on and cite it. By the way, the current reference for this "fact" states that there was in fact one viewpoint and it does not describe or note where that viewpoint was. That this series of painting was painted from the hotel in question, then, still needs a reference. PhilipDSullivan 06:43, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- This article is used as a reference in the main article on Monet for the statement that Parliament was painted from the hospital: http://www.guardian.co.uk/monet/Tour_Thumbnails1/0,3992,209038,00.html If you read this article it suggests that the hotel was used by Monet to paint other paintings, however, not of parliament which were painted from the same vantage point in the hospital. This is in line with the current reference in the article which suggests all the painting were painted from the same place. As this article is simply about the Parliament paintings Monet produced there is no need to mention the Hotel here. I am sorry if this does not promote the Savoy but there was an apparent descrepancy and the facts seem to lie with the Hospital. I am going to add the reference from the main monet article and change the article to note that they were painted from the hospital and not the hotel. PhilipDSullivan 06:57, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

- I apologize then, I deal with too much vandalism and self promotion on the Nietzsche article that when I come across something that looks inaccurate and to be a promotion of sorts I may jump to conclusions. I did some research this morning and it seems that most articles agree that this series, the single viewpoint shown on this article, is from the hospital, however, Monet did paint Parlaiment from other viewpoints. The Savoy could be mentioned then, but I think the normal editors of this article would have to decide if it is suppose to be an article about this particular series of same viewpoints - something that Monet did often, grain stacks, cathedrals - or if it is an article encompassing all paintings Monet did of the Houses of Parlaiment. -- PhilipDSullivan (talk) 17:12, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

- No need to apologize--the desire to get the information right, and free of promotion or personal agenda, is something all conscientious contributors can appreciate. Thank you for asking the questions, and for doing the research. And thanks, too, to Modernist, for finding a strong cite on the matter. -- JNW (talk) 19:01, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Savoy and Hospital
According to Andrew Forge's, and Robert Gordon's, Monet, Harry N. Abrams, Inc., 1989, p. 186, Monet stayed in room 504 at the Savoy in London while painting the views in London of Charing Cross, Waterloo Bridge, and the Houses of Parlaiment, and a room at the Saint Thomas Hospital. According to the same source there was a third location - a club, that Monet mentions in a few letters. The authors seem to state that it was from the vantage point of the St. Thomas hospital room that he painted the Houses of Parlaiment. Modernist 12:52, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
