Talk:London Borough of Croydon/Archive 1

I don't really see the point why we had to have a separate article for "Croydon Council". Surely they are part of the main London Borough of Croydon article? I think they ought to be merged. Dieter Simon 00:55, 3 September 2005 (UTC)
Merger notice
This is a copy of the merger notice in Wikipedia: Duplicate articles entry: Croydon Council should first of all be merged with London Borough of Croydon. Croydon Council is part of the London Borough of Croydon article, it is part of Croydon. It is not a separate entity. Secondly, the risk we are running with precise documentation and lists of councillors such as are included, is that they need constant vigilance so that the lists of councillors are updated and maintained continuously . Can we guarantee this? I don't think we can. All it takes is even only one of the names to change without our becoming aware and the article is out-of-date (and incorrect). I think the lists should be curtailed or even dispensed with altogether. Unquote. Please add your comments. Dieter Simon 23:00, 15 September 2005 (UTC)

- I created this page as I felt there was a place for a separate article on the local authority away from the page on Croydon's description as a place. Perhaps lists of office holders are trivial and prone to become out-of-date, but that is not a reason to lose the page. As an authority, Croydon is large and influential, with substantial political history. It is the largest employer in the borough.
- Greater London Authority is separate to the main article on London. In my mind the Council and the place are separate entities, with the sheer size of the Croydon article making it impractical for further substantial additions. I feel there is a place for both articles and oppose merger, but support removing the names of the cabinet and senior officers (that I added). Mtiedemann 08:55, 20 September 2005 (UTC)

- Is Croydon really so vast that we need a separate "Council" article? It seems an anomaly to have this, as no other London borough has it, as far as I could tell. Who would be looking for it. Are you sure this hasn't just been created to bump up the numbers of Wikipedia articles? I have been a Croydonian for over fifty years, and am aware how these council members change. Seems an awful lot of extra work, when we could almost certainly refine and make the main article better (L.B.of C.). Dieter. Dieter Simon 22:38, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry, Mtiedeman, (is your initial M?), have been looking at my watchlist, without realising you have now removed the list of councillors., for which many thanks. Having put it on the Duplicated articles list, I had better wait what the consensus is. I will, however, add a note that you have removed the "councillors". - This information could easily be merged with the London Borough of Croydon but that article is very large because it includes details about Croydon and the much larger London borough. If the information about the main district was split out in to the Croydon page the London Borough of Croydon article could easily accomodate information about the borough and its council in the style of Greenwich - London Borough of Greenwich or Bromley - London Borough of Bromley. There is enough information to create two excellent articles. MRSC 06:40, 23 September 2005 (UTC)
