Longtan Dam

The Longtan Dam (Chinese: 龙滩水电站) is a large dam on the Hongshui River, a tributary of the Pearl River.[1][2]

The dam, at 216.2 meters when completed, is said to be the tallest concrete dam in the world.[3] The attached ship lift is said to be the fastest in the world.

The Dam's first of three operational generating unit was testing May of 2007.[4] When completed, in 2009, its nine turbogenerators will have a total generating capacity of 6.3 million kw. When completed the project is expected to generate 18.7 billion kwh of electricity annually.
