The following is a partial list of long-distance trails in the United States:
- Allegheny Trail: A 330-mile trail, mostly in West Virginia, through the Appalachians/Allegheny Mountains from the Mason-Dixon line to the Appalachian Trail in Virginia
- American Discovery Trail: Coast-to-coast, from the Delmarva Peninsula on the Atlantic Ocean to the northern California coast on the Pacific Ocean
- Appalachian Trail: Along the length of the Appalachian Mountains in the United States, from Georgia to Maine (and passing through North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire)
- Arizona Trail: 790-mile trail from Mexico to Utah, crossing Arizona's mountains and canyons
- Bay Area Ridge Trail: 500-mile trail circling the San Francisco Bay Area (under development)
- Benton MacKaye Trail: A footpath of nearly 300 miles through the Appalachian mountains designed in the tradition of and connecting to the Appalachian Trail
- Bonneville Shoreline Trail: A 90-mile trail in Utah following the shoreline of ancient Lake Bonneville.
- Buckeye Trail: Circling the state of Ohio
- Chief Ladiga Trail: Alabama's longest rails-to-trails project
- Chilkoot Trail: An international historical trail that begins in Alaska and continues into British Columbia, Canada
- C&O Canal Trail: Along the old Chesapeake and Ohio Canal along the Potomac River in Maryland and Washington, DC
- Cohos Trail: Through northern New Hampshire
- Colorado Trail: From Denver to Durango
- Continental Divide Trail: Along the length of the Rocky Mountains
- Cumberland Trail: Along the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee
- East Coast Greenway: Maine to Florida (under development)
- Eastern Continental Trail: A 5,400 mile combination of trails running from Key West, Florida, to Belle Isle, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
- Finger Lakes Trail: from the Catskills to Western New York
- Florida Trail: 1,400-mile National Scenic Trail from Gulf Islands National Seashore in Florida's western panhandle to Big Cypress National Preserve in south Florida.
- Foothills Trail: A 76-mile scenic path along foothills of the Appalachians, starting from Northwestern South Carolina into North Carolina and Georgia.
- Grand Enchantment Trail: A 730 mile east-west mostly wilderness trail connecting the Phoenix, AZ area with the Albuquerque, NM area.
- Great Western Trail: A north-south trail running from Canada to Mexico through Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming.
- High Line Canal: A 58 mile trail along the High Line Canal waterway from Waterton Canyon through metropolitan Denver, Colorado
- Highlands Trail: from Storm King Mountain on the Hudson River to the Delaware Water Gap
- High Sierra Trail: A 61.5 mile hike from Crescent Meadow in Sequoia National Park to the peak of Mount Whitney
- Horse Shoe Trail: from Valley Forge to the Appalachian Trail near Harrisburg
- Ice Age Trail: Through Wisconsin
- International Appalachian Trail: Through Maine into Canada
- John Muir Trail: A 211-mile trail in the Sierra Nevada mountain range of California, running from Yosemite Valley to the summit of Mt. Whitney.
- Katy Trail: Across Missouri
- Knobstone Trail: 58-mile trail in southern Indiana
- Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail: 70-mile trail in the Laurel Highlands area of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
- Lone Star Hiking Trail: 120 mile trail through the Sam Houston National Forest north of Houston Texas.
- Long Path: from the New Jersey side of the George Washington Bridge to (currently) the Mohawk River.
- Long Trail: The length of Vermont, from Massachusetts to Canada.
- Maah Daah Hey Trail: Connects the northern and southern portions of Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota.
- Mason-Dixon Trail: Runs from the Appalachian Trail at Whiskey Springs, Pennsylvania to the Brandywine Creek at Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania.
- Mattabesett Trail: 57 miles, south-central Connecticut.
- Metacomet-Monadnock Trail: 114 miles from the Metacomet Trail on the Massachusetts-Connecticut state line to Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire.
- Michigan Shore-to-Shore Trail: Linking Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, in Michigan state
- Midstate Trail (Massachusetts): 92 miles, Worcester County, central Massachusetts
- Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway: 50 miles, southwest New Hampshire, Mount Monadnock to Mount Sunapee
- Mountains-to-Sea Trail: Crosses North Carolina going from the Great Smoky Mountains to the Outer Banks.
- Natchez Trace Trail: In Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi
- North Country Trail: Northern tier of states in United States, New York to North Dakota.
- Northville-Placid Trail: In New York, runs 125 miles from Northville to Lake Placid through the Adirondack State Preserve
- Old Croton Trail
- Oregon Coast Trail: Entire 362-mi Pacific coast of Oregon
- Ouachita National Recreation Trail : In Oklahoma and Arkansas, this is the longest trail in the Ouachita National Forest spanning 223 miles across its entire length.
- Ozark Highlands Trail: In Arkansas, 180 miles through the Ozark National Forest
- Ozark Trail: In Missouri
- Pacific Crest Trail: 2654 miles. The Sierra Nevada and the Cascade Range near west coast of the United States (California, Oregon and Washington)
- Pacific Northwest Trail: Begins at Glacier National Park (U.S.), Montana and ends at Cape Alava, Washington.
- Palmetto Trail: A planned but unfinished 425-mile trail in South Carolina spanning from Charleston through Columbia to the Southern Appalachians of the state's Northwest. Currently, 225 contiguous miles are complete in the southern part of the trail.
- Pennsylvania Mid State Trail: The length of Pennsylvania, from Maryland to nearly the New York border.
- Pinhoti Trail: Connects major long-distance trails in Alabama to the Appalachian Trail via the Benton MacKaye Trail
- Potomac Heritage Trail: In the Potomac River basin (under development)
- Robert Frost Trail (Massachusetts): The eastern Connecticut River Valley of Massachusetts; 47 miles.
- Sheltowee Trace Trail: In the Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky
- Sierra High Route: In Kings Canyon National Park, the Inyo National Forest, and Yosemite National Park.
- Silver Comet Trail: West of Atlanta, a rails-to-trails project
- Skyline-to-the-Sea Trail: From the ridge of the coastal mountains in California to the Pacific Ocean.
- www.srkg.com Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway. A 75-mile loop trail encircling the Kearsarge-Lake Sunapee region of west central New Hampshire.
- Superior Hiking Trail: Follows Minnesota's North Shore of Lake Superior.
- Susquehannock Trail: Circular trail in the Susquehannock State Forest in north-central Pennsylvania
- Tahoe Rim Trail: Loop trail on the mountains and ridges surrounding Lake Tahoe in California and Nevada
- Tuscarora Trail: Parallel to Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia
- Virginia Creeper Trail: near the Appalachian Trail in Virginia multi use trail
- Wonderland Trail A ring around Mount Rainier in Washington (state)
