Lone Peak High School (abbreviated LPHS) is a public high school located in Highland, Utah, in northern Utah County. Its mascot is a knight. It is part of Alpine School District. It was created in 1998 to meet the need of the towns of Alpine, Highland and Cedar Hills. Lone Peak High School was given athletic 5A Status beginning at the 2005-2006 school year.

Lone Peak High School's sports teams have won 2 different championships as of the 2004-2005 school year. The current sports at Lone Peak are Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Lacrosse, Swimming, Football, Boys Tennis, Girls Tennis, Track, Baseball, Cross Country, Girls Volleyball, Golf, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Softball, Drill Team, and "Cheer". A bowling team has just been created, and there will be a boys volleyball team for the 2006-2007 school year.

The swimming team has been among the most successful teams at the school. In it's inaugural year, Lone Peak girl's swimming took the 4A state title (1999-2000) and followed that up with another 4A state title the next year (2000-2001).[citation needed] The girls team also earned the honor of being named the "4A Sports Highlight of the Year" for the 1999-2000 year.[citation needed] The girls set a state record (200 freestyle relay) as well as winning all three relays with only six girls on the team (a feat accomplished only by the significantly larger 5A team, Brighton).[citation needed] Lone Peak girls have continued winning state championship titles since (three other times)[citation needed] and both the boys and the girls are regularly region champs.[citation needed] In 2005 the girls won the 4A state title.[citation needed]in the 2006-2007 swim season the kinghts girls team came in third in state and the boys tied for eighth. Girls took second in both the 200 medly relay (Kailin Tripp, Hanna Morgan, Kim Welch, Taryn Toolson) and the 400 free relay (Welch, Hannah Siebach, Morgan, Toolson) and fourth in the 200 free relay (Siebach, Katie Nilson, Catherine Woolston, Tripp). Toolson, a Jr., came in third in the fifty free and missing the state title by .01 of a second and also came in third in the 100 freestyle. Tripp, Sr., took fifth in both the 100 fly and back. Hanna Morgan, Sr., came in fifth in the 200 IM and eighth in the 500 free. Welch, a sophomore, was the only Lone Peak swimmer to achieve a state title by taking first in the 100 butterfly, she also took second in the 200 freestyle.

Lone Peak soccer took the state title in 2005.[citation needed]

The first successful year of the Knights (2004-2005), was mainly due to the success of the doubles team. They went 20-1 losing only in the state finals.[citation needed]

[edit] Basketball

Lone Peak won its first state championship in the 2000-2001.[citation needed] Lone Peak boys basketball were 4A state champions in the 2004-2005 school year.[citation needed] Jackson Emery was named the Deseret News Mr. Basketball for the 2004-2005 season. Jackson started as a freshman for BYU and is currently serving a two year mission for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and plans to continue to play for BYU when he returns. Lone Peak finished second in the Reno AAU Tournament and garnered an invite to the National AAU Championship in Orlando where they took 6th place in the Junior Division II[citation needed], the highest finish ever by a Utah team.[citation needed] Two years ago, the Emery-led team took 10th at the same event.[citation needed] They also won tournaments at BYU, Utah State, Payson, and finished second in another.[citation needed] The boys basketball team also won the title of 5A state champions in the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 school year.[citation needed]

Lone Peak's cross country team has done very well in the last couple of years. Last year, the boys team won Region 4 and placed 3rd at state.[1]

The Volley Ball as made state twice. They had there first state championship 2006 - 2007. They made State again year 2007- 2008.

Lone Peak released there yearbook this year with the theme of "We Are One." Current Editors are Skyler Hardy, Taylor Blake, Abi Smith, Karen LeCates, and Riley Spear. Advisor Scott Telford.

[edit] Fine Arts

The fine arts department at Lone Peak is diverse. The drama department produces two musicals and several plays each year and has a competitive Shakespeare team. Lone Peak also has a very large choir program; with one choir numbering in the 200s.[citation needed] It features other programs in the fine arts such as ballroom dance, speech, debate, and various visual art and sculpture programs.

Miss Johnson, the choir director of Lone Peak, is a former member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and has led the Chamber Choir (28 members) to take first place in Nationals in 2007 and 2008.

There have been 5 directors of the band program in the ten years the school has been open. The current director is Curt McKendrick.[citation needed]

The jazz band has also consistently qualified for state, and placed in the top 3. In 2007 they were named a finalist in the Monterey Jazz Festival.[citation needed]

The marching band claimed first place in the Trubaco Hills Competition in Southern California in 2006.[citation needed]

The Lone Peak Winter Drumline is the reigning champion in its division.[citation needed] There are seven winter drumlines in the state, two in the same class as Lone Peak. They have been finalists in the SCPA, SJVCGPR, and Hayward Circuits since their first year, 2004.[citation needed] In spring 2006 they placed in the top 20 at WGI World Championships.[citation needed]

During the 2006 State Orchestra Festival, the Lone Peak Orchestra, scored two I+'s and a I, the top score in 5A.[citation needed] A chamber orchestra has been formed for the 2006-2007 school year.

Over 100 students get a 4.0 GPA each term, with about 250 making the honor roll of 3.7-3.95.[citation needed] Lone Peak offers several Honor and AP classes throughout the year as well as several off-campus classes at several different colleges such as BYU, University of Utah, UVSC, and several business and technical colleges.
