London Youth Symphony

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The London Youth Symphony, London, Ontario, Canada, offers orchestral instrumentalists a level of training that cannot be duplicated by any school or through private study alone. Sectional rehearsals with coaches from Orchestra London and the Don Wright Faculty of Music, UWO, combined with full weekly rehearsals under Maestro Ingrao, provide musicianship, orchestral playing technique, enrichment and discipline worthy of the finest and most committed young musicians in the area. At present 40 youth orchestra players enjoy the benefits of this professional-level training. The orchestra challenges musicians with classical and contemporary repertoire. The Youth Symphony, through outreach concerts and two recent European tours, has put London on the youth orchestra map.

The orchestra is pleased to play at retirement residences, public festivals and publicly funded schools. The YS performs THREE major symphonic concerts per year, featuring a young soloist selected from within the ranks of the orchestra or a guest artist.

Membership in the YS is open to musicians between the ages of 13 and 23 and is based on the successful completion of an audition for the orchestra's conductor and music director, Len Ingrao.
