[edit] History
The route was introduced on 23 December 2007 as a replacement for the East London Line, running between Canada Water and New Cross Gate, along with Route ELP (Rotherhithe - Canada Water) and Route ELW (Whitechapel - Shadwell - Wapping), in addition to Route ELS (Whitechapel - Shoreditch Bethnal Green Road) which had been running since the closure of Shoreditch Station. The route initially ran every 8 to 10 minutes (every 5 minutes during peak times) using a mixture of Travel London's own buses, and some hired from Metroline. The services were re-structured on 24 February 2008, with the withdrawal of the little used route ELP and a frequency reduction on the ELC to every 15 minutes at weekends. The ELP was replaced by an extra bus on the existing route 381 between Canada Water and Bermondsey stations.
