[edit] History
Route 83 is a very long route running from Golders Green and finishing at Ealing Hospital via Hendon, Wembley, Alperton, Ealing and Hanwell, but in 1940s it continued to Hayes North via the present 195. The Hayes to Ealing Broadway section was withdrawn and replaced by the 105 in 1958.
In 1961, route 83 was extended from Ealing Broadway to London Airport Central (now Heathrow Airport Central) via the 65 and the former 91 (now H91). The London Airport Central to Ealing Broadway section was discounted in 1964.
In 1965 it was extended to Brentford replacing the former 255, this section was withdrawn in 1968 and replaced by the new E1. In 1980s it was rerouted to the full length of the Uxbridge Road to the new Ealing Hospital. It also swapped with the with the 183 in the Hendon area running via Hendon Central tube station instead of via The Bell.
Route 83 has always been operated at First London's Alperton garage using double deckers like Routemasters, Metrobuses, ex-London Buslines's Leyland Olympians and now low-floor Volvo B7TLs. Although, before they were closed down it has been operated from Hanwell and Hendon garages.
The 83 is now a 24-hour route.
