Route 640 was introduced to help route 140 at school times. In the mornings, the 640 starts from South Harrow, follows the 140 to Harrow Weald Bus Garage and continues to Clamp Hill; and when schools finish at 15:00 the route starts at Clamp Hill, then Uxbridge Road, and follows the 140 and finishes at South Harrow.
