[edit] History
The 397 route was first introduced in the late 1990s following the withdrawal of route 531 which connected Chingford with Loughton. The route was originally operated by Arriva Shires & Essex but due to the closure of Debden garage, the operations passed to Arriva London in Edmonton along with the Dennis Dart SLF buses. An every 30 minute Sunday service was introduced in February 2007 making it an all week 30 minute service.
[edit] Vehicles
Arriva have always used Alexander ALX200 buses on this route which they are now repainting from the blue and cream Arriva Shires & Essex livery into the red and cream Arriva London livery. The route sometimes has odd appearances from Dennis Dart SLFs, and older Alexander ALX200s from the London Buses route 444.
