[edit] History
The 125 started operation in 1937 and originally ran between Southgate Station and North Finchley, with Metrobuses. In 1948, the route was extended to Golders Green. Later, the route was extended to Highlands Hospital and Southgate. The route was later, further extended to Winchmore Hill. From 1950 onwards, various timetable modifications took place over the route including withdrawal of certain services on weekends or in the evenings. This included the withdrawal of service to Winchmore Hill on Sundays and the withdrawal of the route between Golders Green and North Finchley on evenings and weekends and subsequently its complete withdrawal. The service, for a short time ran to Oakwood on weekends as the 29A operating there, was withdrawn on weekends. Later the 298A succeeded the route 29A which ran daily. This allowed for the 125 to operate daily to Winchmore Hill. In 1987, Grey Green (now Arriva London) was awarded the contract to operate the route. They used second hand Volvo Citybuses and its garage was in Stamford Hill. A year earlier, the route was extended for a short while to Enfield, where the 125 buses are currently based. They were originally based at Edmonton. In 1991, after the withdrawal of the route 26, the 125 was extended to Finchley Central. Shortly after Arriva London took over the route, they introduced low floor DAF / Presidents and a more frequent service. It was suggested that the route be extended to Enfield again but this does not seem likely at this point.[1]
