Lok Ma Chau is the northwestern terminus in Lok Ma Chau on the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line, a branch line of the East Rail Line built to alleviate the overcrowded checkpoint between Hong Kong and mainland China at Lo Wu station. Unfortunately, there is only a small number of passengers using the station. Therefore, the MTR Corporation is promoting the Lok Ma Chau spur line.
This station, together with the spur line, opened on the afternoon of August 15, 2007. The adjoining Huanggang Station of the Shenzhen Metro opened on June 28, 2007. Like Lo Wu Station, this station is located in the Frontier Closed Area.
