[edit] Comment on sourcing etc

Lojah. I was going to take a break, but had to stay in town today so might as well comment. Having seen you're relatively new here, I think I've been a bit harsh in assessing the Shadowyze situation.

I think the problem here is a common kind of misunderstanding. In the real world - say, academic, music, journalism circuits - credibility is, rightly, based on who you know to be a reliable source and on personal experience. A lot of new editors, ones who are knowledgeable from experience, assume that applies here too, and naturally react with "Why don't you trust me, you b******s? when people query what they write.

But with the open editing system here, it has to work differently. There's no way of knowing how credible an editor is (or even that they are who they say they are). So authority for information isn't based on personal credentials, but on the credentials of the sources themselves. General guidelines for what's viewed as reliable are listed at WP:RS. We're talking about sources of agreed reputation: well-established newspapers and magazines, online or offline reference works, non-selfpublished books, etc.

Neutrality (see WP:NPOV) is a big issue. It's a practical reality that few people can write neutrally and objectively about themselves or their colleagues. Maybe some can come close to it, but WP:COI is strongly against it because it's so rare and so abusable in an open-edit encyclopedia. It's nothing personal that people want third-party verification.

Hope this helps explain how the system functions. Tearlach 15:15, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

According to my talk page, you recommended deleting the Shadowyze wiki site. I did delete some biased information and re-formated some of the page. Let me know what you think. Wathiik 14:57, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Untrue: I didn't. That came from Lojah's canvassing in relation to the AFD. I voted for "keep and rewrite". Tearlach 00:19, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
I did not canvass anything according to Wikipedia guidelines. It's only wrong if I try to bring in external people to back me up. I simple contacted ONLY the people who had contributed to the article in the past. I see no rules against That. Lojah 00:55, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] How to do inline references

See WP:REF for a few different methods. MSJapan 15:26, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Shadowyze (rewrite)

Haven't been by in a while and noticed you rewrote the article I started, and prevented it from being deleted. Much thanks. SlimXero 11:24, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Removal of Cherokee Language Tags

Please do not remove Cherokee Language IPA Tags from articles as you did in Green Corn Ceremony. Thanks. Jeffrey Vernon Merkey 02:03, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
