Logan High School (LHS), in Logan, Utah, is a public high school. As part of the Logan City School District, it serves students in the 9th through 12th grades in the city of Logan, Utah. LHS is currently in the 3A UHSAA division, a transition that took place in the year 2006, whereas before the school competed in 4A. The school is currently headed by Principal Patricia Hansen, aided by Assistant Principals Dan Cox and Stu Howell. Widely known for its academic, athletic, and artistic achievements, Logan is considered as one of the finest educational institutions in Utah, as well as in the U.S.

In 1978, a Physical Education Complex was added.

In 1984 the freshman class was added to the student body. With the increasing amount of students, the Woodruff Elementary school was closed and converted to the English department and writing lab (a new Woodruff Elementary was constructed at 650 S 1000 W in Logan, UT ).

In 1993 a major remodeling of the south and west ends of the school took place. The new addition included a media center, a larger cafeteria and new classrooms.

During the summer of 1999 the Old Boy's Gym came down to make room for a new gymnasium, lobby, and storage. The new building was complete during the 2000-2001 school year.

During the 2003-2004 school year an extensive remodeling of the sports field areas south of the main building took place. This has resulted in a new football field, softball diamond, sand volleyball courts.

In the 06-07 school year a new baseball diamond was completed.

The LHS football team became state champions in the 1978, 1988, 1989, 2000, 2005 and 2007 seasons. The team is currently coached by Mike Favero.

[edit] The Art Programs

Logan High School is known for their art programs as well as their sports. Their orchestra, band and choir programs are known throughout the state and they perform out of state every other year.

[edit] Orchestra

The LHS Orchestra under the direction of Karin Hendricks has grown into a massive program including three orchestra's with a total of 150 students. THe orchestra is divided by grade level and not by skill the Concert orchestra consists of the freshman, the Sinfonia consists of the sophmores, and the Philharmonic consists of the juniors and seniors combined. In 2008 the concert orchestra went to state. They played Rhosymedre, St. Paul's Suite, and Andante Festivo. The 3 judges gave a 1-, a 1, and a 1+. Averaged out, overall, they got a one! :)

The LHS band, under the constant guidance and supervision of Dan Stowell is well known across the region and state. LHS has two bands, the lower or symphonic band and the upper or wind band, there is also an extra jazz band class in the morning where everyone is invited. Unlike the orchestra the bands are not split up by grade but skill. the band goes on national trips every other year taking only the upper band and jazz band, the cities they have gone to include Boston, Chicago, New York, San Diego, and Washington D.C. They also regularly participate in state and regional festivals and competitions.

The Choir is directed be Randall J. Smith a longtime LHS veteran. It consists of Choir 1, 2, 3, Girls Chorus, Chauntairs, and Crimson Colony. The choirs perform at school events more regularly than either the Orchestra and the Band and have for 90 years sung at the graduation ceremonies.

[edit] Theatre Art

The Theatre art or Drama classes at Logan High are directed by Mitzi Mecham. She has been teaching at LHS since 1988 and has organized a musical every fall and two more play productions later in the school year. Mitzi teaches Theatre arts 1, 2, and 3, Musical, and Play production classes.

There are many diverse clubs at Logan High, each with a teacher in charge and a program that betters the students and the community.

The Logan High School debate team is under the guidance of their coach Paul Wagner. During the 2007-2008 School Year the Logan High Debate team won the 3A state Debate championship. The Logan High School debate team has also qualified some of its members to National Debate. The following students are going to Nationals; Jim Dennison, Kelton Mock, Gaurav Dhiman, Andy Dahl and Michael Stevens.
