[edit] Plot

The episode opens at night, with a man walking through a construction site; we see he has a corpse slung over his shoulder. The man makes his way towards a block of cement, where he throws the body in but it rolls and the blanket the body is wrapped in unravels, revealing the dead person - an elderly lady. The man sighs sadly and the scene cuts to the morning, where Catherine and Grissom are standing over the man from the night before, who evidently jumped into the cement and couldn't get free before it hardened around him, trapping him to his dump site. Catherine finds this image very amusing and can't help but laugh. Since the man refuses to give them either his name or the name of the dead woman, Catherine must find out who he is, where he came from and what happened to the dead woman.

Meanwhile, Nick, Warrick and Sofia investigate the death of an old woman found in her apartment with her head in an oven. They soon discover that, rather than dying from inhaling gas, she actually died from blunt force trauma to the head, thus suggesting homicide or at least staged-suicide. Grissom, Sara and Greg investigate a murder at a chicken processing plant, which, after another miniature model of the crime scene is discovered, aids them in solving the previously unsolved murders.

At the conclusion of the episode, Catherine is still finding the situation "horrible but funny", unlike Grissom. Grissom wistfully asks if Sara has come to tell him that "Mankind has reached a new evolutionary plateau, and starting tomorrow, no one will rape, murder, or maim again." (She has not.) Catherine and Sara appear to realize Grissom's level of exhaustion.
