[edit] History

On September 11, 2007, the Los Angeles Unified School District approved a motion to turn over control of Locke High School to Green Dot Public Schools. This move would make Locke High School the first Los Angeles High School to be administered by an outside charter management organization.

On May 10, 2008, the school was the site of a major fight that broke out between African American and Latino students during the lunch hour and involved over 600 students; the school has an enrollment of 2,600. Order was restored by 110 Los Angeles and LAUSD police officers dressed in riot gear. Several students were taken into custody for questioning while at least four students suffered minor injuries. Another brawl was reported at nearby Washington Preparatory High School.[1][2]
