Lochiel, South Australia

Lochiel is a small town or hamlet located in the Mid North of South Australia 125 km north of Adelaide at 33°56′S, 138°9′E. It is located on the western edge of Lake Bumbunga and hosts a salt extraction works. The Lochiel Coal Mine was operational a few kilometres east of the lake in the 1980s and 1990s.

The town is also known for it's 'Loch Eel' monster which resides in the salt lake. The creature is a rubber tyre/ plastic creation which has been in the lake by the main highway for many years.
