Localgod clothing

Localgod Clothing is a clothing company with a contemporary art focus. Localgod is best known for its graphic style from contemporary artist and company creative director Rob Powell. The graphics have a street art influence, mixed with different design styles to create a line under the notion of “progressive vintage” clothing that explores contemporary design elements while creating staple garments. Localgod is based out of Hollywood, California.

Localgod Clothing was founded by Joshua Kopel, Rob Powell, and Sasha Perl-Raver in September of 2005. The brand was officially launched in April of 2007 at LA Market Week in Los Angeles, California.

Localgod received immediate critical acclaim from industry trade magazine Apparel News and has since been featured in many national magazines and network television shows. As of November 2007, Localgod Clothing can be found in over 150 boutiques nationwide as well as retail stores in Canada, Germany, Greece, and Japan.[1]

With graphics illustrating Hollywood lore, Los Angeles landmarks, and prominent American heroes, Localgod attempts to encapsulate American Culture. Their collections include a shirt depicting The People’s Democratic Party’s “Pigasus for President” and the Chateau Marmont Hotel which was turned into the “Hollywood House of Death”.[2] Most subject matter has historical influence and is approached with a slightly subversive tone to bring attention to current views of society, ethics and idealisms.[3]
Though the subject matter can border on cynical, the overall goal of the company is intended to be positive and inspirational reflecting the company mantra, “Strength Through Character.[4]
