This is a list of the main sporting local derbies in the United Kingdom.

There are comparatively few fiercely competitive footballing derbies, the following are the biggest in English football, roughly in order of importance/hype placed upon each fixture:
- North London derby - Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur[1]
- Merseyside derby - Liverpool vs Everton.[2] Tranmere Rovers sometimes included during cup ties.[3]
- Manchester derby - Manchester United vs Manchester City[4]
- Tyne-Wear derby - Newcastle United vs Sunderland
- Steel City derby - Sheffield United vs Sheffield Wednesday
- Birmingham derby (also known as the Second City derby)[5] - Games between Aston Villa and Birmingham City. Occasionally used incorrectly to refer to games between the previous two clubs and West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
- South Coast derby - Southampton vs Portsmouth[6]
- East London derby - West Ham United vs Millwall
- West London derby - Fulham vs Chelsea, QPR vs Fulham, QPR vs Chelsea
- Black Country derby - Primarily between West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers, but also including Walsall
- East Anglian derby (occasionally known as the "Old Farm Derby") - Ipswich Town vs Norwich City [7]
- South Wales derby - Cardiff City vs. Swansea City (Also formerly Newport County)
- East Lancashire derby - Burnley vs. Blackburn Rovers
- East Midlands derby - Derby County vs. Nottingham Forest, but can include Leicester City
The "Football Rivalries Report 2008", undertaken by The New Football Pools, owners of Littlewoods, produced a league table of rivalries based on the results of a survey of fans, ranking the results using a formula based on:[8]
- the survey responses of both sets of fans
- the respective league and cup records of the two clubs
- the regularity of league and cup meetings between the rivals
- the two clubs' records when playing each other
- the impact on attendances when they meet
- transfers between the clubs, and fans' reactions to those transfers
- off-the-field factors, such as media coverage of the rivalry
The top five rivalries were between:
- West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers
- Ipswich Town and Norwich City
- Liverpool and Manchester United
- Portsmouth and Southampton
- Cardiff City and Swansea City

- Potteries Derby - Stoke City vs Port Vale
- Severnside Derby - Mainly Cardiff City vs Bristol City can include Bristol Rovers or Newport County
- Yorkshire Derby - Leeds United vs Sheffield Wednesday - Match between Yorkshire's two (on major trophies achieved) most successful clubs.
- A5 Derby - Nuneaton Borough vs Tamworth
- A23 Derby - Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion ("Eagles" vs "Seagulls")
- A420 Derby- Swindon Town vs Oxford United
- A45/A605 Derby - Northampton Town vs Peterborough United.
- A6 Derby (also known as the East Northants. derby) - Games between Rushden & Diamonds and Kettering Town.
- Battle of Basildon (or a New Town Derby) - the name given to matches between Basildon United and Bowers & Pitsea as both teams reside in the district of Basildon. Could also include Billericay Town or intermediate side Basildon Town.
- Battle of Britain - name applied to games played between English and Scottish teams e.g. Liverpool vs Rangers and Manchester United vs Celtic
- Bradford derby - Bradford City and Bradford Park Avenue, also known as Wool City derby
- Cambridgeshire Derby - Cambridge United vs Peterborough United
- Cheshire Derbies - between Chester City, Crewe Alexandra, Macclesfield Town, Stockport County and Tranmere Rovers
- Miners Derby - Chesterfield vs Mansfield Town
- Cross-border Derby - Wrexham vs Chester City, Wrexham vs Shrewsbury Town
- Devon Derbies - between Exeter City, Plymouth Argyle and Torquay United
- Didcot Triangle Derby - between Oxford United, Reading and Swindon Town
- Dorset Derby - Dorchester Town vs Weymouth - Football
- Durham Derby - Darlington vs Hartlepool United
- Durham - Northumberland Derby - Gateshead vs Blyth Spartans
- East End derby - Any match involving West Ham United, Leyton Orient and Millwall
- Essex derby - Colchester United vs Southend United and has included Southend's recent games against Dagenham & Redbridge
- Golden Valley Derby - Gloucester City vs Cheltenham Town
- Humberside Derby Grimsby Town or Scunthorpe United (from the south bank) vs Hull City (from the north)
- Lincolnshire Derbies - between Grimsby Town, Boston United, Lincoln City and Scunthorpe United
- London Derby - includes any of these (Greater) London teams: Arsenal, Barnet, Brentford, Charlton Athletic, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Leyton Orient, Tottenham Hotspur, Millwall, Queen's Park Rangers, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United.
- Luneside Derby Lancaster City v Morecambe
- El Traffico Derby - Luton vs Watford
- M69 Derby - Coventry City vs Leicester City
- M4 Derby - Swindon Town vs Reading
- North Lincolnshire derby - Grimsby Town vs Scunthorpe United
- North Yorkshire derby - York City FC vs Scarborough
- Nottingham Derby - Nottingham Forest vs Notts County
- Quakers vs. Shakers - Bury vs Darlington
- Railway Derby - Swindon Town vs Crewe Alexandra
- Staffordshire Derbies - Between Stoke City or Port Vale vs Walsall, Tamworth or Stafford Rangers vs Burton Albion
- South Cheshire-North Staffordshire derby - Between Crewe Alexandra and Stoke City or Port Vale
- South London Derby - any game between Crystal Palace, Charlton Athletic and Millwall
- Teesside Derby - Middlesbrough vs Hartlepool United
- Tees-Wear Derby - Middlesbrough vs Sunderland
- Thames-Side Derby- Hampton & Richmond Borough vs Staines Town
- Thames Valley Derby - Reading vs Oxford United
- Thanet derby - Margate vs Ramsgate
- Tyne-Tees Derby - Newcastle United vs Middlesbrough
- War of the Roses - Leeds United vs Manchester United, Huddersfield Town vs Oldham Athletic
- West Country Derbies - Any games between Swindon Town, Bristol Rovers, Bristol City, Plymouth Argyle, Exeter City, Torquay United, Cheltenham Town, Yeovil Town and to a lesser extent Bournemouth
- A 'Borough Derby' could involve any two of the following three clubs who all play in stadia in the same London borough: QPR, Fulham, Chelsea
- West Lancashire Derby (also known as the M55 Derby) - Blackpool F.C. vs Preston North End F.C.
- West Midlands Derbies - Any game involving Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Coventry City, Birmingham City and Walsall
- West Riding Derby - Derby between teams that play in cities or towns originally in the West Riding of Yorkshire including Barnsley, Bradford City, Doncaster Rovers, Halifax Town, Huddersfield Town, Leeds United, Rotherham United, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday.
- Wallingford Quadrangle - A game between Reading, Oxford United, Swindon Town or Wycombe Wanderers

- Calder Derbies - between Castleford Tigers, Featherstone Rovers, and Wakefield Trinity
- Heavy Wollen Derby - Batley Bulldogs v Dewsbury Rams
- Hull Derby - Hull FC v Hull KR
- Leeds-Bradford Derby between Leeds Rhinos and Bradford Bulls. The two teams traditionally meet the night prior to Good Friday each year as well as during Millennium Magic.
- Leigh Centurions and Wigan Warriors known as the 'Battle of the Borough' derby[11]
- St Helens vs Wigan Warriors, established in 1897. Now routinely held on Good Fridays after historically being held on Boxing Day.
- West Cumbria Derby - Whitehaven v Workington Town
- Manchester Derby - Salford v Swinton

- Saracens v London Wasps London Derby, with one of the games played annually at Twickenham at the beginning of the season.
