[edit] Introduction:

Loan Petrus Burger was Born on the 6th of February 1978 in Cape Town, South Africa. He grew up in the Eastern Cape in East London. Loan attended Port Rex Technical High School and matriculated in 1996. After this he started studying towards a diploma in Building Science, but due to a car accident in which he broke his fractured his spine in two places he was forced to abandoned his studies until he fully recovered.

In 1997 He started studying again, this time toward a diploma in Hospitality Management. Upon completion he took a Rooms Division Management position with the Kat Leisure Group. In 2004 Loan went back to studying completing a Bachelors Degree of Technology in Tourism Management. During the same year he started lecturing Hospitality Management at the Premier Tourism and Hospitality Institute, based in East London.

Finally in 2005 Loan decided to make a career change and started studying full-time towards a diploma in Information Technology.

Loan got married to Doctor Carin Burger in December 2000. They have one son. His parents got divorced during his high school years. His mother was remarried in resides in East London. His father fell ill and moved to Montagu in the Karoo to live with his sister. He died in May 2006, two days after Loan Completed the 2006 Cape Epic.

[edit] Interests and Hobbies:

Loan has been very active in the cycling world. He started cycling at the age of 12. Loan spent his first years road cycling, but later changed to mountain biking. In 1999 he achieved is Provincial Colour awards for Cross Country racing. In 2003 Loan started racing marathons. He competed in his first Cape Epic in 2004. This race was to become the single most important sporting event in his life. After the 2007 Cape Epic, and having completed 3 in a row, he achieved his Amabubesi status, which is an elite finishers club for the prestigious event. Loan also wrote the Beginners Guide to completing an Absa Cape Epic.

Besides cycling Loan also enjoys computer gaming, programming and loved to spend time on his one litre super bike.
