[edit] The LKW-MAUT is a toll, not a tax
- "Maut" translated into English literally means toll.
- The system used to collect the LKW-MAUT, Toll Collect, is refered to as a "toll" collection system in the article and other media.
- The english speaking version of the Toll Collect website [1] calls it a "toll"
- The German Wikipedia article calls the LKW-MAUT a toll.
- German mainstream media such as Der Spiegel refer to the system as a "toll" [2]
- English speaking mainstream media such as the BBC refer to the system as a "toll" [3]
- The system resembles other tolls in the world such as those on Italian and French motorways. It charges a fee according to usage. The only difference is that the toll booths have been replaced by an automated electronic system.
