Lizzy Borden is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1983. Lizzy Borden is also the name of the band's lead vocalist. Borden specialized in the shock rock style originated by artists like Alice Cooper and Kiss. The band is named after notorious Lizzie Borden, a woman accused (and acquitted) of murder in the late 19th century.
Though Lizzy Borden were considered a part of the Los Angeles "glam metal" scene in the mid-1980s, they were more musically influenced by bands such as Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Kiss, Alice Cooper and Judas Priest. Their lyrical themes are also more representative of this style, especially on earlier recordings.
The band was featured prominently in the rockumentary The Decline of Western Civilization II.
One time Lizzy Borden guitarist Joe Holmes also played with David Lee Roth and Ozzy Osbourne and Swedish born bass guitarist Marten Andersson has also toured and recorded with Lynch Mob and Legacy.
The band experienced considerable success throughout the later part of the 80s in spite of several line-up changes. In 2004 several members of Lizzy Borden, including Lizzy, bassist Marten Andersson and drummer Joey Scott went on to form a new side-project, Starwood that represents a departure from their original metal sound. The band considered by some to just be a more modern version of Lizzy Borden released the debut CD "If It Ain't Broke, Break It!" on Metal Blade Records. The band did a series of concerts and are said to be working on a follow up CD. On May 17, 2004, former guitarist Alex Nelson was killed in a head on collision. He was known for his love of the band and the music they created.
In 2006 Borden announced that they reformed Lizzy Borden with a new guitar player named Ira Black. On November 1, 2007 the CD "Appointment With Death" was released worldwide. The CD features guest appearances by George Lynch (Dokken/Lynch mob), Dave Meniketti (Y & T), Corey Beaulieu (Trivium) among others. In early 2008 the band announced various festival appearances including Sweden Rock Festival (Sweden) and Bang Your Head Festival (Germany).
