Aeon Calcos (アイオーン・カルコス Aiōn Karukosu?) is a fictional character designed for the Soul Series of fighting games. Commonly known as Lizardman, he made his first appearance in Soulcalibur and has returned for Soulcalibur III and will return for Soulcalibur IV with a new design. Another Lizardman, who was not Aeon Calcos, appeared in North American and European console ports of Soulcalibur II.

[edit] Background Story
The Spartan soldier, Aeon Calcos, like Sophitia Alexandra, was one of the twenty-four warriors to receive an oracle from the god Hephaestus to destroy Soul Edge – one for every letter of the Greek alphabet. Armed with the holy Xi Sword forged for him, a group of desert travelers rescued a dehydrated Aeon and brought him to their village, and he was about to repay them by teaching them swordplay. He was unable to exchange their kindness, however, as the Evil Seed had rained down and turned Aeon into a crazed killer, causing him to massacre everyone in the village.
Kunpaetku, the grand priest of the cult order Fygul Cestemus, eventually heard stories of him and captured Aeon so that he may be used as a human guinea pig in a terrible experiment, causing him to transform into a lizardman — the first of many lizardmen to come. Aeon was ordered to bring Rock's adopted son, Bangoo, to Europe so that his soul could be stolen. Aeon was eventually tracked down and defeated by Rock for the kidnapping, while aiding Astaroth in pursuing Soul Edge.
Soul Edge was struck down moments later, the energy emitted from Soul Calibur releasing Aeon from his brainwashed state. Hidden from the world, Lizardman set on a journey to restore his human form, however upon realising he had no place to return to, he wondered angrily why Hephaestus had not helped him in his time of need. "My god has forsaken me," he thought, before casting away the sword and shield he was given, to find Soul Edge and destroy the god of forgery with the very weapon he feared most would be his new resolve and the ultimate revenge.

Lizardman has a quantity of tricks, yet dangerous when mastered. Lizardman is a fierce character but players must be careful for his range. Lizardman has an interesting range being that of mid-range and short-range he also has a unique set of moves that set's with his lizard like being. He is a mixture of Sophitia and Cassandra in gameplay.
[edit] Weapon(s)
-- Xi Sword and Game Shield
The short sword and small shield Lizardman used when he was human. They were created by Hephaestus and given to Aeon to use in destroying Soul Edge. In Soulcalibur II, where Sophitia can use this sword and shield, the Weapon Gallery states that they retain their holy properties in spite of Aeon's transformation, but also that they hold a curse and are very unstable.
-- Grudge Ax & Aya Shield
The handaxe and shield Lizardman uses in Soulcalibur III. After his faith in his gods faded with his last glimpse of hope, he cast aside the original divine weapons he once wielded and changed it for this set. The name of the axe is likely to be derived from his grudge against Hephaestus.
- Lizardman automatically uses Soul Edge in the Abyss battle. In Soulcalibur III, Lizardman's weapons and fighting style are available under the discipline "Soul of Lizardman" to Assassin characters, however, like Voldo's discipline, they lose all spoken dialogue in the game.
[edit] Stages
-- Kunpaetku Shrine (SC)
A shrine constructed by Kunpaetku which mirrors the design of Palgaea Shrine. However, in contrast to the hellish heat of Palgaea Shrine, poisonous fumes filled this place instead which were omitted from the pools of glowing liquid - highly toxic to humans, but the ideal enivironment for other forms of life to dwell. This stage is known as "The Edge of Chaos" on the Arcade version.
-- Silk Road Ruin (SC3)
Built by a wealthy merchant and richly decorated. The place is slowly deteriorating, evident by the sand pouring from above. Given up on humanity, Lizardman lurks here awaiting the arrival of travelers who may hold information about Soul Edge.
-- Palgaea Shrine - Ruins (SC3:AE)
A new arena for Lizardman introduced in the Arcade Edition of Soulcalibur III. The Palgaea Shrine is Astaroth's place of birth, a temple surrounded by magma. The temple lays in ruins after Astaroth's rampage through it. No official profile exists for this stage.
[edit] Epilogues
[edit] Soulcalibur III
Lizardman is seen holding Soul Edge and Soul Calibur: If chosen to throw Soul Calibur away, he will attack two bandits who enter his territory saying they will capture and sell him. Their screams will then be heard. If chosen to throw Soul Edge away, he will attack the two bandits who trespass, but he will let them go though. A group of red Lizardmen will be seen celebrating as Lizardman himself appears to be wearing a crown and cape.
Lizardman makes cameos in the endings of other characters: He appears in a barrel in Voldo's ending, and if the player presses the correct buttons, he is assumed Voldo's replacement. In Rock's ending he appears in a cage if the player presses the correct buttons, though it is unknown how he was captured. He also appears in the background of Maxi's ending, if the correct buttons are pressed, once again inside the cage.
