Liza Ryan is an American photographer who was born in Norfolk, Virginia in 1965. Her mother was a poet, and taught Liza how to describe things. Liza earned a BFA at Dartmouth College, (New Hampshire) in 1987 and an MFA from California State University, Fullerton in 1994. She lives and works in Los Angeles, California.

Her photographic works are mostly narrative with traditional subject matter, especially the human body and its environment. She explores the relationship between the body and nature, while trying to weave a story around their interactions. The Contemporary Museum, Honolulu (Honolulu, Hawaii) and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Los Angeles, California) are among the public collections holding works by Liza Ryan.
