Liverpool Waters

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Liverpool Waters is a large scale £5.5bn development that has been proposed by the company Peel Holdings in the Vauxhall area of Liverpool, Merseyside, England. The development will make use of a series of presently derelict dock spaces in an area north of Liverpool's historic Pier Head.

If built as planned the development will create at least 17000 full time jobs, 21m Sq ft of new commercial and residential floor space, and deliver a boost to the city's population of 50,000 residents.[1]

Along with its sister project Wirral Waters, Liverpool Waters represents the biggest potential change in the area's economy in decades,[2] and is Peel Holdings largest development scheme to date.

[edit] Transport

Another noteworthy feature of the plans is the inclusion of a monorail to link the area to Liverpool's existing city centre. Given that the original Liverpool Overhead Railway covered this area, the monorail could be seen as the rebirth of or successor to this late Victorian endeavour.

[edit] Viability

The developers have stated that the project may take 50 years before it is finished. The proposals however are presently at a very early stage of planning, with detailed studies of its commercial potential yet to be completed.[3]
