Live at Five (Sky TV series)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Live at Five has long been the title of Sky News' evening news round-up; beginning at 5pm British time. Since the channel's revamp on October 24, 2005, the slot has been anchored weekdays by Jeremy Thompson, providing a round-up of all the day's events and coverage of any late-breaking news. The show currently runs until 7pm, and follows the same times on the weekends although is fronted on these days by Andrew Wilson.

The roundup usually begins with Thompson (or other anchor) announcing the biggest news story of the day, then proceeding to give viewers "five more reasons to watch Live at 5" - basicially a list of another five major news stories which would be featured on the show. Several minutes of reports and other features are then given on each one of these stories. This format is subject to change in the event of late-breaking news.

Since April 2006, the programme's main digital-only rival is BBC News at Five O'Clock, anchored by Huw Edwards broadcast on BBC News.
