[edit] Pioneer
Liv Lindeland was the first Playmate, after 18 years and 216 issues, to display extensive pubic nudity in a pictorial. Pictures of Lindeland clearly showed blond pubic hair in several shots, including the centerfold itself, although it would be Marilyn Cole (January 1972) whose centerfold would feature true full frontal nudity. They both went on to become Playmate of the Year.
Perhaps to divert attention from this major advance in the Pubic Wars with rival pornographic magazine Penthouse, Lindeland's pictorial, photographed by Alexas Urba, focused on her long hair and the underside of her breasts. Although Lindeland's pictorial generated a tremendous amount of attention, the first appearance of pubic hair in Playboy actually occurred in August 1969 in a pictorial featuring dancer/actress/model Paula Kelly.[citation needed] The first Playmate showing a first slight glimpse of any pubic hair on her centerfold was Melodye Prentiss (Miss July 1968), some 15 years after the magazine's introduction.
Lindeland went into acting following her Playboy appearance, and then segued into a career as a talent agent. She again posed nude for Playboy in the December 1979 pictorial, "Playmates Forever!"
