9.0: Live is the first, and to date, only live album released by American nu metal band Slipknot. It was released on November 1, 2005, by Roadrunner Records. The album was recorded on the band's world-tour for their latest release, Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) from 2004 to 2005. The album features a balance of tracks from Slipknot's first three major label albums, Slipknot, Iowa, and Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses). Although a few songs which are rarely played live, such as "Get This" and "Skin Ticket", are also included.[1] The recording of "Skin Ticket" is the first ever live performance of the song. The vocal introduction to the album, informing the audience that the band would not be performing that night was staged by the band to incite anger in the audience.[2]
[edit] Reception
Critical reception of 9.0: Live was fairly positive. Reviewing for All Music Guide, Johnny Loftus commented that the fan relationship with Slipknot is "what unifies the performances" on the live album.[3] He also stated that throughout the band's history they have never compromised, becoming "metal stars the real way, through relentless touring, embracing fan support, and penning some truly brutal songs."[3] Rolling Stone wrote that the music featured on the album resembled a "new-school Motorhead", with its "scary-clown rap-metal bullshit getting steamrolled by big riffs and speed-punk beats."[4] PopMatters called 9.0: Live a "very worthy live album", also complimenting the band for gaining success the "old-fashioned way, building a strong reputation as an extremely potent live act."[2] Also citing the band's strong relationship with their "extremely devoted fans" as a strong point, PopMatters wrote that the "maggots" are "arguably the most fervently loyal bunch since the early days of Metallica two decades ago."[2] The album sold well, premiering in the top twenty for album sales in the United States and Australia.[5][6] The album was certified platinum by the RIAA on December 9, 2005.[7] "Before I Forget" was called a "true gem and grinds out with a level of devastation that will make you green with envy if you weren't at these shows."[1] Tom Day of MusicOMH wrote that drummer Joey Jordison took "centere stage" throughout the performance.[1]
