Liu Qi (Chinese politician)

Liu Qi (Chinese: 刘淇; Pinyin: Liú Qí; b. November 1942) is the CPC Beijing Committee Secretary, first-in-charge of Beijing, and also a member of the CPC Politburo.
[edit] Biography and Career
- Graduated from the Metallurgical Department of Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Engineering, and majored in iron smelting. With a postgraduate education, Liu holds the professional title of Senior Engineer.
- Mayor of Beijing, 1999-2003. He was succeeded by Meng Xuenong, who was replaced by Wang Qishan after the SARS outbreak.
- Head of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Bid Committee (BOBICO). [1]
- Named as one 100 most influential people of 2007 by Time magazine.[2]
- Head of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Summer Games.[3]
