- This is a Chinese name; the family name is 劉 (Liu).
Liu Dai (? - 192) is the protector of Yan during the later years of the Han Dynasty. He was the older borther of Liu Yao, and his Chinese style name was Gongshan (公山). After the Yellow Turban Rebellion, Liu Dai took part in the Anti-Dong Zhuo Coalition. In the Romance of Three Kingdoms, when Yan ended up being captured by Cao Cao, Liu Dai had no choice but to surrender. After losing his domain, he went on to attack Liu Bei, but ultimately was defeated and robbed of his position. In reality, however, none of these had happened. Liu Dai took his trusted advisor Bao Xin's suggestion to join Cao Cao and had since engaged in suppressing the surviving force of Yellow Turban Rebellion. As his successful campaigns continued to grow, Liu Dai became overconfident and refused to listen to Bao Xin, which proved to be fatal, resulting in both Bao Xin and him being killed.
