Littlehampton Redoubt

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Littlehampton Redoubt was built to protect the entrance to the River Arun at Littlehampton on the south coast of England. A 7“ gun battery was built on the East bank perpendicular to the river in the 1750's, with guns both facing up the river and out to sea. There seems to be a small roller-coaster built on it now. A small pentagonal fort with 5 guns was built on the West bank in 1854. The site, though fenced off, is viewable from a dune path with a plaque giving historical details. Heavily overgrown, the most obvious feature of the fort is a Carnot wall.
