[edit] Overview

Little Flower High School is a missionary Educational Institution based in Chirag Ali Lane Hyderabad India. It has classes from Lower Kindergarten to 10th grade level. The Institution conducts it's classes as per the Secondary School Certificate(SSC) syllabus of the State Government of Andhra Pradesh.

[edit] School History

Little Flower High School was established in July 1953. The Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel under the guidance of Rev. Bro. John of God set up the school with Rev. Bro. Britto as its first Principal to mark the centenary celebrations of All Saints.
During the tenure of Rev. Bro. Franky Noronha, the school witnessed a lot of infrastructure developments. LFHS was lauded as the best school in the twin cities and one of the ten best schools in India according to a survey conducted by " Outlook" magazine ( 2001 - 2002 & 2002 - 2003 ) consecutively [1]. The school boasts of allumini like V. V. S. Laxman and Arshad Ayub and also the Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Mr Suresh Reddy.[2]

[edit] Admissions

Though the school is a Catholic Minority Institution, its admission is open to all students irrespective of caste, creed, religion or gender. For admission into Kindergarten, the school follows a joint admission policy together with St Paul's High School, Hyderabad and All Saints High School, Hyderabad, both of which also run by the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel.

Every year in January, one of the three schools (in rotation every year) conducts the admissions procedure for Kindergarten. It involves an interview of both the student and the parents. The number of students who apply for admission far exceeds the number of positions available and hence it is a very competitive process. Students are allowed to state their choice among the three schools but their choice is not guaranteed. A twenty-percent quota is generally reserved for economically backward students.

[edit] Academics

[edit] Divisions

The school has four academic divisions- Pre-primary, Primary, Middle and Senior.

The pre-primary division has four sections each of lower and upper Kindergarten. The primary division has four sections each of Classes I to III (Class III is equivalent to the Third Grade as it is called in the USA, Canada and some other parts of the world. Note that the word "Class" is used instead of "Grade" and the year is written in Roman Numeral). The pre-primary and primary divisions are housed in one campus, commonly called the "Primary School"

The Middle school has four sections each of Classes IV to VII and the High School has four sections each of Classes VIII to X. Both the Middle school and High School are housed in another building, commonly called the "High School Campus". The High School Campus and the Primary Campus are near one another on the same road.

[edit] Exams

The Academic year starts mid-June and ends in early April and is divided into three quarters. Examinations are held at the end of every quarter and every month. At the end of Class X, the students take the State Government administered Secondary School Certificate Examination. At the end of Class VII also, students have to take a State Government administered exam. The school had consistently displayed extraordinary performance in the public exams and has in several occasions had 100% pass results. Many of the school students have also obtained top ranks in these examinations.

[edit] Houses

Though the school is not a residential school, it follows a House system. The student body is split into four houses with an aim to promote healthy competition among the students.

  • Yellow (Cosmonauts)
  • Blue (Aeronauts)
  • Green (Astronauts)
  • Red (Argonauts)

[edit] School Ceremonies and Traditions

  • Investiture Ceremony

In the beginning of every academic year, the newly elected School Cabinet and Class leaders take the oath of office in a colourful Investiture ceremony. The Head Boy and the Head Girl make their maiden speech on this occasion.

  • Teachers' Day

September 5th of every year is celebrated as Teachers' Day all over India in the memory of former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. In what is probably the most festive celebration of the year, students show their love, gratitude and appreciation to their teachers. Sports and games are held for the teachers and prizes are given away.
