LITMA, the Long Island Traditional Music Association, is located on Long Island in New York State, USA. The non-profit organization is a broad community of musicians, dancers, singers, and listeners who gather to enjoy and perpetuate traditional music, song and dance on Long Island through education and participation.
The organization includes the LITMA Orchestra, which plays a mixture of traditional music from Irish reels to jigs at LITMA events and other occasions. The dances include Contra dance and English Country Dance. The material for the English Country Dances is taken from The Barnes Book of English Country Dance Tunes by Peter Barnes. Annual events include the annual Fiddle Festival held in Stony Brook, New York. There is a schedule of contra dances, ballroom workshops, house sings and music jams. LITMA hosts master classes, including one given in the summer of 2006 by Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, and another by Cathy Mason of Grand Bois.
