Lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6) is an inorganic chemical compound. Its CAS number is []. It is a white crystalline powder that hydrolyzes readily in contact with water or moisture.
Its risk and safety phrases are R20 R21 R22 R23 S22 S26 S27 S36 S37 S39. It is very destructive to mucous membranes. Harmful if swallowed, inhaled, or absorbed through skin.
Lithium hexafluorophosphate can be dissolved in some organic solvents, eg. propylene carbonate with dimethoxyethane, for use as an electrolyte in lithium batteries.
It can be used as a catalyst in tetrahydropyranylation of tertiary alcohols. [1]
