[edit] Summary
An image of the cover of The Little Grey Men by "BB" (Denys Watkins-Pitchford); taken personally with a digital camera from the Eyre & Spottiswoode edition, seventh printing.

It does not fall into one of the blanket acceptable non-free content categories listed at Wikipedia:Non-free content#Images or Wikipedia:Non-free content#Audio clips. qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content and Wikipedia:Copyrights. |
. I believe "The Little Grey Men" to be copyright 1942 by Denys Watkins-Pitchford (although, curiously, this edition does not actually contain a copyright notice). The cover art is also by Denys Watkins-Pitchford. Fair use rationale for Denys Watkins-Pitchford: this is a low-resolution image; I don't think this will allow anyone to make a good enough print to harm sales of art reproductions or any other commercial use of the cover or the cover painting. The image is of Watkins-Pitchford's best-known book, and also illustrates his art style.
[edit] Licensing
This image is of a book cover, and the copyright for it is most likely owned either by the artist who created the cover or the publisher of the book. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of book covers
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Other use of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information. |
