Note: The edits were for a report for NBC Nightly News —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hiddenhearts (talkcontribs) 19:05, 23 March 2007 (UTC).
Which is why I emphasized the speedy revert. — Deckiller 15:33, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Blocked

You've been blocked indefinitely as a vandalism only account. Vandalism isn't acceptable, especially on national television. I would have hoped you would have known better. alphachimp 15:32, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

{{unblock|This is a newbie account that should have been progressively warned. The first edit was a test and the second edit appears to be constructive and accurate. WP:COI notwithstanding, this editor should not have been blocked. --Tbeatty 01:56, 25 March 2007 (UTC)}}
Y

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

I agree with Tbeatty above; while vandalism for national news media is not an acceptable practice, subsequent edits were helpful, and the point of blocking users is to make them stop vandalizing, not to punish them.

[edit] Wikipedia versus mass media

I think a Wikipedia article chosen at random is more accurate than a mass media report chosen at random. Care to take up the challenge? WAS 4.250 03:31, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

From my experience people like this, who decide they don't like Wikipedia, will rarely take up a challenge that stands a chance of proving them wrong. --Deskana (talk) 15:35, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I agree. — Deckiller 15:37, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I agree as well.  ~Steptrip You raise me up 20:47, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I'm sick and tired of the mass media misrepresenting us. Agree. PTO 02:20, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A few words from an uninvolved administrator

This site is run almost entirely by volunteers, most of whom would rather spend their time improving articles than correcting vandalized pages. Although the edits you performed may seem minor, this sort of action is like throwing litter from a car window: one toss gives the wrong impression to the next driver, who sets a bad precedent for the one who follows. Some civic-minded volunteers spend a lot of time cleaning up that trash because we care about this stretch of the information superhighway.

As a journalist the public trusts you to research your stories and present fair and accurate reporting. Some of Wikipedia's volunteers - myself included - have given our contact information to the Wikimedia Foundation to facilitate the background research for reporters such as yourself. I would gladly have explained the concept Wikipedia calls a breaching experiment as well as the applicable policies WP:POINT, WP:VANDAL, and WP:OWN. The central problem with a news report that performs a breaching experiment in ignorance of those policies is that it conveys the impression those policies do not exist. Vandalism spikes in the days that immediately follow and our hardworking volunteers get frustrated.

I would be glad to correspond with you in advance of future stories. You may contact me through the Foundation or by clicking my signature to visit my user page, then clicking E-mail this user at the far left side of your screen. Regards, DurovaCharge! 14:07, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
